Tips to keep your hat looking like new
A hat is a real ally for winter: it protects us from the cold, accompanies us on a daily routine and quickly becomes essential to our outfit. So when it's time for our favorite to go to our closet, we will make sure it's well cared and we can use it next year. All materials aren't made equally... Here are some tips to keep your Pipolaki products in great shape for years to come.
Generally, it’s preferable to use a washing bag if you plan to machine wash any hats or scarves … and avoid putting them in the dryer.
Hand-wash your hat with detergent for delicate fabrics. Avoid ironing (or only at very low temperatures and backwards). Since wool absorbs moisture, drying is a delicate phase that shouldn’t be ignored. Lay flat on a towel to air dry, out of the sun and near a heat source. These recommendations are valid also for virgin wool, merino wool and alpaca.
Avoid frequent washing of your angora hat to avoid damaging the fibers. Hand-washing is recommended Dilute “Marseille soap”, baby shampoo or special “wool” detergent in cold water, immerse your hat without twisting and rubbing , then rinse quickly with cold water. Press gently without twisting it and lay flat to air dry.
Feel free to wash cashmere products (every 2-3 uses). Cashmere likes and needs water to keep its softness and flexibility and to delay the onset of pilling. Hand-wash in cold water with a small amount of wool detergent. Don’t twist or rub, just press gently with your fingertips and rinse with cold water. You can also wash your hat in a machine on a cold wool program with a maximum drying of 500 turns with delicate fabric detergent without any softener. Lay flat on a towel to air dry, out of the sun and other heat sources.No ironing.
Polyamide & Acrylic hat:
The hats and accessories in polyamide and acrylic can be machine-washed at 30° with regular detergent. However, both materials line dry unfolded.
Polyester & Polar hat:
Preferable to wash by hand, but you can wash it in the machine by using the wool function without spin drying. In either cases, use a special detergent for delicate fabrics or wool textiles. When drying, don’t twist a synthetic fibre, press it gently with your fingertips and dryflat on a towel. Ironing is not necessary but if you wish to do so, proceed at a low temperature.
Hat with viscose:
Wash your hat in 30-40 degrees using a delicate textile program and by putting your product in a washing bag (preferably). Dry it flat out the sun or near a heat sources.
Hat with Elastane :
Hats and accessories containing elastane can be washed in the cold wash cycle at 30° maximum with a fabrics detergent for delicates. High temperature can lead to loss of the fiber elasticity. Air dry . Maintenance must be done according to the materials with which it was mixed.
Hat with Silk :
Silk is a delicate natural fiber that should be treated with the utmost care, it is more fragile than synthetic fibers. It is therefore important to respect the following rules :
- Never spray perfume or deodorant on silk
- Do not wash with bleach
- Do not expose silk too long to direct sunlight
- Never sprinkle water during ironing
- Do not remove stains with water
- Always ironon the reverse side
- Never wring out your silk products, pat down gently
Hand-wash your hat with warm water and liquid detergent for delicate fabrics. Lay flat on a towel to air dry, out of the sun and other heat sources.
